Stop Trying to Come up with Great Ideas
Too often creatives find themselves held back by self-doubt and lack of inspiration. Mind-blowing ideas won’t just materialize into existence, unfortunately. So, how do we do it?
For great ideas, give your subconscious mind the stage. Easier said than done, but this method requires less overthinking and more doing. We have learned from time and time again that some of the greatest ideas followed terrible ones, and that is OK.
Below are three ways to think of creative ideas without overthinking.
1. Stop Trying
The worst way to come up with a mind-blowing idea is trying to come up with a mind-blowing idea. We are too hard on ourselves. Turn off your self-critical thoughts and focus on quantity over quality. Let yourself jot down hundreds of horrible ideas because you may accidentally come up with a great one. Plus, spilling your thoughts onto paper will make more room in your mind for new ideas at the least.
2. Start Doing
Quit looking into space and start acting. Finding methods or practices that work for you is key to generating ideas like crazy!
Begin with goals for quantity. This could mean starting with a blank piece of paper and telling yourself it must be full of ideas, good or bad, before you take your lunch break or even setting a numeric goal such as writing 1-50 and filling each slot. When the pressure to only put out perfection is off, you’ll be surprised how much easier it becomes to write your thoughts down. Find whatever works for you and stick to it.
3. Don’t Keep Secrets
It’s one thing to allow yourself freedom when thinking creatively but sharing those ideas with someone else can bring new fears. It’s time to be confident because the last step to a successful brainstorm is bringing in more perspectives to propel your good idea to a great idea.
Whether its your co-worker or the whole office, run your ideas by other people to see if anything lands. Your worst idea could spark the best idea in someone else. If an idea is favored, write it down on a group board and keep going.
This is what makes the brainstorming process creative. You never know what will happen or the road you’ll take to land on the mind-blowing idea you need. Let’s get thinking! If your brand is eager for its next huge idea, connect with our team today.
